GearAndGrowth is a small independent site about the software people use to run a one-person business.
Not enterprise platforms. Not “solutions for teams of 50+”. The actual stack a freelancer or consultant assembles to send invoices, sign contracts, track work, manage clients and stay on top of tax — and the question of which parts of it are worth paying for.
Why this site exists
Search for almost any freelance tool and you get two kinds of result. Vast directories with thousands of listings and star ratings that tell you nothing. Or vendor-owned blog posts that conclude, remarkably, that the vendor’s own product is best.
What is missing is someone willing to give an actual answer to an actual situation. That is the gap this site is trying to fill.
How we work
Three commitments, described properly on the How We Research page:
- Verdicts are locked before we know what pays. Tools are scored before anyone checks for an affiliate programme. If the best option earns us nothing, it still wins.
- We label what we have and haven’t tested. Research-based comparisons say so at the top. Only hands-on articles use the word “tested”.
- We flag what we could not resolve. When sources contradict each other, that goes in the article instead of being smoothed over.
Who writes this
GearAndGrowth is run by one person, and published under the site’s name rather than a personal byline. That is a deliberate choice, and it is worth explaining rather than leaving you to wonder.
We would rather be judged on method than on a personality. Everything that would normally be carried by an author bio — how tools are chosen, how they are assessed, what we have and haven’t verified, who pays us — is written down on the How We Research page instead. You can check our reasoning on any article against those rules.
What this does not mean. It does not mean invented people. There are no fictional staff writers on this site, no borrowed credentials, and no AI-generated headshots presented as colleagues. “GearAndGrowth” is one real person choosing not to put their face on the internet — not a team that does not exist.
Research and drafting are assisted by AI tooling. Every published article is reviewed and approved by a human before it goes live, and any claim of hands-on experience corresponds to a tool someone actually used. We think that combination is worth being open about rather than hiding.
If you need to reach a person — for a correction, a complaint, or a business matter — the contact page reaches one directly.
How the site is funded
Affiliate commissions, and nothing else. If you sign up for a tool through one of our links, the company may pay us a percentage. You pay the same price either way.
We do not run display advertising and do not plan to. Ads would compete with the content for your attention, slow the site down, and make it worse to read. Details on the affiliate disclosure page.
An honest note about this site’s past
Earlier in 2026 this site published product reviews under four author profiles that were not real people — invented names, invented professional certifications, AI-generated headshots — attached to articles claiming months of personal testing that had not taken place.
That content has been unpublished and those profiles deleted. The policies described on the How We Research page exist specifically so it cannot happen again.
We are stating this openly because a site asking you to trust its recommendations does not get to quietly delete its own history.

Corrections, disagreements, or a tool you think we have unfairly ignored — the contact page is the way in. Corrections are made on the page with the date updated, not silently.
